Saint-Paul-de-Vence
Located on a hill, Saint-Paul-de-Vence is a quaint village right next to the city of Nice. Its roads resemble a cobblestone staircase that wind throughout the entire village. The streets are filled with local artisanal shops and art galleries. You can visit the Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs, a chapel where the inside contains a wonderful art piece created by Belgian artist Jean-Michel Folon that depicts that village in pastel colors! You also have the Fondation Maeght, Frances leading art foundation that was created in 1964 by famed artists Georges Braque, Joan Miro and Alberto Giacometti.
Èze Village
Èze is one of the most popular villages in the South of France and is even where many people take their wedding pictures because it is very fairy tale like! Château de La Chevre d’Or is a luxury 5-star hotel in this quaint village with the most breathtaking panoramic view of the riviera! Its restaurant, La Chevre d’Or has two Michelin stars and serves some of the most elegant and beautiful plates in the entire region.
Le Jardin Exotique is a garden in the village of Èze that contains many foreign plants, most popularly cacti. This garden sits on a hill and has a beautiful sea view from the very top of the village, which you can see in the picture below!
Peillon
If you want to visit a more classical French village, Peillon is for you. It has a very calm environment that is serene and is 376 meters above altitude. This small medieval village has a small population of just over 1,000 people and will make you feel like you have traveled back in time. Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Douleurs de Peillon is a must see chapel in the village that was built in the late 1400s. Eglise de la Transfiguration is also another must-see if you enjoy a church filled with history and beautiful hand painted works of art. This church can be seen in the image below at the very top of the medieval village. The village itself is set in an amazing scenic spot in nature that will allow you to disconnect from reality for a bit!
Gordes
Known as one of the most beautiful villages in the country, Gordes is a secluded village in the hills of Vaucluse. L’Abbaye de Senanque is a monastery that is popular for its breathtaking fields of lavender. Les Caves du Palais Saint Firmin is also another great attraction in Gordes. It is an old palace from the Middle Ages with a cave that goes throughout the property. In these caves is where men used to work at the time and there are even tools that were found and restored and displayed! The cobblestone streets and the overall setting of this Middle Aged villages truly transports you the complete different time period!
